Can be Radicular: You have pain and numbness in a specific area governed by a single spinal nerve root. Most commonly caused by a ruptured ("slipped") intervertebral disc. There is no effective first aid. Most often there is an accompanying backache and a history of a back stressing accident. Active rest may leave you with the 80% who heal. Else a physiatrist, orthopedist or neurosurgeon can guide your recovery.

Toe pain: Sounds like a gout. Have you ever checked your uric acid level? Do you take any pills? Did you have any trauma?

Lumbar radiculopathy: This sounds like the nerve root from L4. The nerve becomes the femoral nerve to the knee then the tibial nerve to the foot. The nerve is being irritated somewhere along it's route. Best to to see a neurologist if symptoms persist.
