A member asked:

How long does errosive esophagitus take to form into barrets esophagus? how long does does it usually take for you to develop barrets with gerd?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It is uncommon: Barrets esophagus is a rare complication of chronic GERD(Not associated with erosive esophagitis unless it is chronic and ongoing for many years.).You are advised to have Upper Endoscopy(EGD) if you have had symptoms of GERD for more than 20 years. Right now you are too young to worry about it. Just take regular antacids, preferably PPI drugs which are more effective than H2 blockers.
