Pain,tenderness: Pain and tenderness in that region, in the absence of trauma and strain, may be due to some mild inflammation of a rib cage muscle or nerve. Pleurisy or an actual lung infection usually has associated cough or accentuated Sharp pain on deep breath. If symptoms persist or worsen see your physician who may order an xray if deemed advisable after his/her examination.
