Sometimes steroids: Steroids such as prednisone are sometimes used in the treatment of mono (glandular fever) to shrink down extremely enlarged tonsils so that a patient can breathe and swallow properly while his mono illness gradually subsides. It will take as much time as it takes. There isn't a medication to speed up recovery.
