Could be overactive: An overactive gland can cause gradual swelling but rarely discomfort in the lower neck and symptoms which may include headache but more likely to include feeling hot, heart racing, trouble sitting still and weight loss. Your doctor can check your neck and order thyroid tests if he/she thinks they are needed.
