Insulin resistance: In type 2 diabetes you become Insulin resistant due to advancing age, family history and (70-90% influence) weight gain. You then need to make more Insulin to overcome the resistance, but that only works until you exhaust your pancreas's ability to make extra insulin. Then your ability to make Insulin declines the rest of your life.
