Multiple causes: Medical causes for panic attacks include: mitral valve prolapse, overactive thyroid, low blood sugar, stimulant use and medication withdrawal.For depression some causes include an underactive thyroid, certain medications, alcohol, perimenopause and vitamin deficiencies (i.e. Folic acid and b12). Some illnesses put you at a high risk for depression such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer.
