Heat waves: In general, the groups most affected by heat waves are the elderly, infants, and those unable to care for themselves, such as nursing home patients or spinal cord injury patients. Frequency of checking will depend upon the severity of the conditions the people find themselves in. If at all possible, those at risk should be in shelters with air-conditioning, with plenty of access to liquids.

The elderly & childr: ren to make sure they are hydrated & not overheated & keep the body temperature from rising. We have a thermoregulatory mechanism to control this in our brain & thyroid feedback loops. This may not be optimized as well in the very old or young needing assistance to prevent them from becoming unconscious. So get a baseline, then if lethargic, hydrate & take vitals. Don't try 2 manage urself, go to ER.

Depends: It is not necessary to check your temperature even if there is a heat wave unless you feel dizzy, sweating profusely or you're out in the sun, or you do not have an air-condition. Usually , staying hydrated, staying out of direct sunlight can prevent heat strokes.
