I'm at an airport in rome and a gypsy walked by and spat on the side of my face into my hair... any chance of something being transmitted?

NO: the only possible transmission would be on a mucous membrane (eg your lips) or an open sore..(Wash area thoroughly with soap and water! Hope this helps! Dr Z

Skin: Your skin is the first line of defense against infection. If your skin is intact, it is highly unlikely that you will contract anything from someone else spitting on you. If the spit gets in your eye, you might be at risk for infection. Of course, washing with soap and warm water makes sense. Enjoy your trip to Rome.
