One or both sides?: If this has been present for less than a few days and confined to only one half of the body, then you may be getting shingles which will soon erupt as painful lesions. On the other hand, trauma to or fracture of the ribs can cause pain as well. If the problem is intolerable, see your doctor. Has NSAID been helpful?
