Exposure: Panic Disorder is the classic anxiety illness and is often responsive to exposure therapies. The best treatment for panic (and many other anxiety disorders) is exposure to the trigger. There are online articles about graded exposure or you can see a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. Recognizing that the symptoms feel awful and possibly even life threatening but are not dangerous is key.

Panic: If you can find a quiet place - do so. Breath in slowly; deeply through your nostrils. Fill your lungs with air (but not to the point of discomfort). Hold for a count of five then slowly begin to exhale through an open mouth. Repeat at least 12 times, longer if you need to. There are some very good self-help books that will teach you techniques to prevent & treat panic attacks.
