YES: it is COMPLETELY NORMAL...although it does not happen very often and studies of such "continuing dreams" have really not been done! One theory is that it is actually ONE DREAM and the DREAM consists of "waking up" which really does not occur..(In other words one dreams about waking up and continuing dream) Confusing right!!??? If this happens regularly see a sleep specialist for a sleep "study"..

I hear this often.: Your dreaming mind is working through stresses of the day, purging and categorizing memories and other sensate impressions. If the events in your life are salient, your mind will continue for some time, even if interrupted by brief periods of wakefulness. Try some stress reduction techniques (exercise, meditation) but also to manage your life so there is less stress. For now, don't worry.

Dreams: Dreams have many meanings. Find a referral to a psychoanalyst to discuss your dreams with. Working with dreams and the unconscious is all about what psychoanalysts do.

Anxiety and stress: Horrible dreams or night terrors can be caused by increased stress, anxiety , after experiencing or witnessing extreme life threatening situation or intense, unusual situation. The specific situation can repeat itself in nightmares like in PTSD, or can be completely unrelated.. If nightmare happens once in the while its normal, if on more nights then not it becomes a problem.
