Thyroid nodule surg: Sometimes the FNA is inconclusive, the nodule looks worrisome; surgery is indicated. Yes, the surgeon can remove the lump, get a quick (frozen) diagnosis, and if benign do no more. But sometimes the quick dx is wrong, and the surgeon may need to then do a second surgery. These are complex decisions; discuss with Endocrinologist and a good thyroid surgeon (who does this all the time).
