A member asked:

Can a positive urine culture with group b strep, but normal urinalysis confirm a uti? or likely to not be a uti?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confirm a UTI: Group B strep is usually a gut bacteria. If there are symptoms such as burning on urination foul-smelling urine for the positive culture it is most likely a urinary tract infection. Urinalysis probably would show a positive leukocyte esterase test. The culture is usually the goal stand it if it is greater than 100,000 colonies.
