Likely it's not.: While Nexium (esomeprazole) and similar medications will reduce the acidic component of the reflux, it does not stop the reflux from happening, and non-acidic reflux can be just as damaging to the esophagus as acidic reflux. And what's worse is that since the acidic component contributes to the sensation of reflux, you don't even know it's happening and could tend to forget about it. You need surveillance EGDs

THE ONLY WAY: to make absolutely sure that you do not have Barrett's is a upper GI endoscopic exam.....they are done with NO DISCOMFORT and little PREPARATION> Ask your PCP for a referral to a Gastroenterologist and stop worrying DO IT! Dr Z
