It does slightly reduce clotting ability so is used with caution when on another blood thinner, and one should always notify prescribing doctors when considering a new OTC med/supplement. 3mg taken 4 hours before bed is the most effective studied dose of melatonin, and timed-release forms offer no additional benefit
