URI: How long have you had the red throat & nose? Most upper respiratory conditions start as viruses. It usually takes 7 -10 days before becoming bacterial. You should take throat lozenges, gargle salt water, drink lots of fluids, use nasal saline, take acetaminophen or ibuprofen if you develop discomfort. If it gets progressively worse, you need to see MD for exam, culture, and possibly antibiotics.
