A member asked:

Do endodontists usually treat a periodontal issue like a deep sulcus and no need for a root canal? or, would they refer out to a periodontist?

No: If there is no root canal involvement, treatment is outside of their specialty sphere. That's like asking if an OBGyn would treat a bowl obstruction. Please see a Periodontist for gum treatment, an Endodontist for root canal treatment.

Periodontist: A periodontist would be best for periodontal issues.

See periodontist: Endodontists are dentists who have at least 2-3 years of advanced training in root canals. For periodontal issues see periodontist.
