What else besides a shot of novocaine can a endodontist give you for a root canal?

Another shot: There are different shots that can be given: in the back jaw, around the tooth, in the gum pockets of the tooth and down the canals in the root of the tooth. Sometimes some doctors may prescribe a valium or a sedative medication to help patients. Consult your endodontist.

Sedation: If the issue is anxiety, you could be sedated "put to sleep" prior to the rct procedure, you will still require anesthesia. Novocain (procaine) is a very early generation anesthetic, most dentist now use lidocain, carbocain, marcain or septocain. All of these require a shot and can be used in multiple ways and location depending on the situation.
