Can take > an hour: Slow gastric emptying occurs in diabetics, outlet obstruction & other disorders. Pillow placed under knees may help U. Nl gastric function clears about 50-60% of ingested meal in 1 hr. Less that 30% abnormal. Diagnosis should be clear by 2 hrs. Two days before test, medicine to increase motility or medicine that slows emptying (opiods or antispasmodics) must be stopped. No food AM before study.
