See answer: The common cold is defined as an upper respiratory viral infection that is self limited. Causes include RhinoViruses, Influenza virus, Adenovirus and Enteroviruses. The common cold does NOT lead to severe heart disease BUT some of the viruses that cause the common cold can also cause myocarditis, which is a separate illness. PATIENTS WITH MYOCARDITIS USUALLY DON'T HAVE A PRECEDING COMMON COLD.
