Your doctor can answ: Since you have a doctor who ordered this test, he/she can address this question better. If you do have cell changes as you have descrobed, then a repeat biopsy should be done once yearly or at least once every 2-3 years depending on the degree and extent of changes. I assume you have been checked for infection/treated for H Pylori?

Endoscopy to be done: Yes. focal intestinal metaplasia may progress to gastric cancer. But real percentage of becoming cancer would be low, in the United States. Asian ancestry and non-caucasian population should be more concerned. Follow-up endoscopy and biopsy (and mapping) are recommended at least once a year or every two years.
