Occipital neuralgia?: Recurrent sharp pain in the back of the head is often due to Occipital Neuralgia, possibly due to compression of a branch of the nerve but the exact cause is unknown. It often responds to an injection of a mixture of an anesthetic agent and a corticosteroid medication.
