Yes it can: This combination is also used in COPD (obstructive pulmonary disease). A chronic cough may be an early sign of this condition. If you smoke- stop (sue you heard this before). Avoid situations that instigate your cough and if you take this mediation, make sure you are compliant with your physician's recommendations. Its important!! Good Luck.

Also used for COPD: The combination of budesonide and formoterol (known as Symbicort in the US) is a medication that is used for asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). While COPD patients often suffer from chronic cough, combivair/Symbicort are not approved for and do not treat chronic cough itself.
