Ovarian cyst?: If not on birth control suppression, approximately 15% of women in any given cycle may have a persistent ovarian cyst. If hormone producing, which most are, abnormal periods are the most common symptom. Cysts are not always painful, and abnormal menstrual flow does not always mean a cyst is present. Ultrasound may be helpful.
