It is true: Eye dryness can occur from tear deficiency, wetting agent deficiency in tears, changes in the oil composition, inflammation of the eyes or lids, and following certain types of trauma or surgery. The character is different for each and there are variations in treatment for each. Check with an ophthalmologist if you think you have this problem.

Yes: Dry eyes can occur because of inadequate tear production or excessive tear evaporation. It is common for dry eye to occur because of a combination of both reasons.
