Use ice cube: Cold sores caused by herpes virus are not really cured since the virus continues to reside in the nerve. Some anti-viral medications may help lessen the severity if used early. If you can feel the cold sore coming - prodromal sign - tingling sensation in the usual spot you get cold sores - you could apply an ice cube to that spot. It has been reported that this reduces the virus replication.
