Constipation is: diagnosed in infants 2 months old & older who have 3 symptoms: firm, dry pebbly stools, no bowel movement for 2-3 days in a formula fed baby & straining/crying while having a bowel movement or taking > 10 minutes to pass a stool. If these criteria are met & baby is over 2 months, give 1 oz./day of apple or pear juice, 1st diluted to ¼ strength with cooled boiled water, then ½ strength, if needed.
