A member asked:

How can you distinguish between mania and schizophrenia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good question: The expected answer is mania has grandiosity and cycles. The real answer is time will tell. The treatments are often similar. Early treated schizophrenia can have as good an outcome as mania. Mania that is poorly treated leads to depression and benefits from mood stabilizers. After several years with treatment you often can't tell the two apart.
