Neuropathic pain: Sounds like a neuropathic pain (pain originating from a nerve tract). Typically this is a shooting/stabbing pain. Do you have a history of diabetes? Any decreased sensation or even hyper sensitivity in that area? History of recent trauma to the region? Or extensive exercise? The discomfort should resolve in time, if it is due to trauma or activity. If not then you may need an MRI for further eval
