Internal derangement: We use the term internal derangement of the knee to describe, in general terms, the fact that a structure in your knee (ligament, meniscus, or articular cartilage) may be injured (deranged) or torn. Only a thorough examination of your knee (possible including X-rays and even an MRI) will more clearly define any specific injury. Seek an orthopaedic evaluation if not resolved in next several days.

Burning Left Knee: Talk with your PCP about getting imaging studies done of your left knee to look at the soft tissue structures (cartilage, ligaments, etc.). They might refer you to orthopedic surgeon if findings show things like moderate size meniscal tear or ligament injury. Hopefully your symptoms can be treated without more aggressive intervention.
