Confusing question: Sorry, a lot isn't clear. Where was your herpes outbreak? Genital? Typical for past recurrences? Definite herpes as the cause (cluster of blisters or sores)? Or maybe you mean herpes zoster (shingles)? That's a more likely cause of flank or abdominal pain that might be confused with kidney infection or stone. Neither HSV nor zoster would cause a kidney infection, but zoster can cause ongoing pain.
