Yes, 7-10 years: Cells do not go from normal to cancerous overnight. Instead they become precancerous and it takes 7-20 years to progress (though often it regresses and heals on its own). Thus, screening by pap smear every 3-5 years can prevent most cervical cancer. See http://screening.iarc.fr/doc/RH_natural_history_of_cc_fs.pdf
