Feeling Good: There are several types of depression. Reactive depression occurs as a result of loss and eventually we adjust. If one does not adjust or if the cause is not clear certainly seek professional help. "feeling good" by david burns is an excellent self-help book based on science. Don't let the thickness of it intimidate you. The very best to you. Cereal & soup = poor nutrition=depression.

Therapy?: No. Have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as anxiety or depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room.

The bigger problem: ...is the depression. Cereal and soup won't kill you, but living with untreated depression is painful for you. If you are so depressed that you have lost enjoyment of food and appetite, you need treatment. Start by seeing your primary care. S/he can direct you to the right combination of medicine & cognitive behavioral therapy. It is very possible to develop skills for improving mood & outlook.
