I have black stringy stool. i called local hospital asking them if it was an emergency. she said i cant give medical advice and hung up. what do i do?

Melena?: Melena is black tarry stool that occurs with bleeding from the upper GI tract and should be evaluated right away. Are you taking aspirin or similar medications? Some drugs like pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) can produce black stool.
