A doctor has provided 1 answer

Relax: GBS is a common germ found in human poop. It is known to inhabit a woman's genital tract intermittently through life. About 1/3 will be test positive at a given time. It occasionally causes a UTI in women & could cause a devastating illness in a vulnerable newborn. Oral meds don't eliminate it from the body so IV meds are given during labor to protect baby.
