A member asked:

If i take medicine for hypothyroidism, would the symptoms i already have (weight gain, thinning hair, constipation) go away? or are they permanent?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

They should improve: Those symptoms are a result of your body not having enough thyroid hormone. By taking medicine you are REPLACING that missing hormone. Once the medicine gets to a steady & appropriate level for you, then your body is no longer hypothyroid (as long as you keep taking the medicine), and the symptoms improve. Keep in mind, though, that it can take weeks or even months to get to that steady state.
