Does benadryl (diphenhydramine) help with a dry cough?

Dr. John Chiu answered

Depends on cause: If the cough is simply from a post-nasal drips, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) may help but if the cough is from something else such as asthma, sinus infection, reflux etc then Benadryl (diphenhydramine) would do nothing for you. If the cough has been present for more than a couple of weeks or has not been improving, then you should consult your doctor.
