Discuss with doc: Just tell your doctor what you wrote here. Not uncommon for a patient to prefer short-acting med to long-acting/extended release form. If your doc doesn't know you that well, can't hurt to reassure that you're taking Xanax (alprazolam) as prescribed and don't mix with alcohol or other substances. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
