Depends on level: of pain and deformity. If it is just swollen with no or minimal deformity and skin is intact, you can probably leave it alone to heal on its own. If it is deformed, pain is persistent, or skin is broken, you should see a doctor.

Have it Seen.: You need to have the toe x-rayed and treated by some one with expertise in great toe fractures. If it was a little toe, then you could possible get away with self treatment. The great toe, however, can affect you foot function if not healed correctly. You need to apply ice, elevate and rest it until it can be properly evaluated.
