Some thoughts: without an exam, I can only give general information. Overuse of an area can cause pain that resolves by rest/aspirin like drugs or changing the type of work one does. Carpal tunnel is one condition that causes pain in the wrist in which surgery often is quite helpful.

Tendinitis: . Infection. Gout, inflammation and nerve compression all can be very painful in the involved tissues. Ice, splinting and nsaids are a decent general treament but a proper evaluation and diagnosis is needed.
