Red gums: I would be more concerned about the red/swollen gums. If you yourself notice that your gums are red and swollen then you most likely have gingivitis. If left untreated gingivitis can progress to periodontitis which can lead to tooth loss and increased risk for other systemic problems such as diabetes. Seeing a dentist for an evaluation and treatment is your best bet to prevent this.

Gingivitis?: If you noticed a swelling, infected gums or frequent bleeding gums, it may be a sign that you are at risk for or already have gum disease. Gingivitis is a serious problem, which should be diagnosed professionally by a dentist. Do not delay, call a dentist ASAP.
