A member asked:

Is it abnormal to have lung aspiration 2-3 times per month? i choke when swallowing food, drinks and sometimes on saliva.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Certainly not normal: Aspiration can range from penetration of larynx with saliva or small amount of swallowed liquid (just irritates vocal cords a bit) to frank aspiration pneumonia (think of it as a non-infectious chemical burn of lungs from stomach acid). A modified swallow evaluation by Speech Therapy is a useful diagnostic step.
