Enlarged tonsils, pronounced epiglottis and other anatomic differences can provide enough space at the back of the throat to cause food trapping. Because of your history, make sure that you are eating slowly, chewing your food thoroughly and drinking enough fluids while you eat. Talk to your Dr at your next regular annual physical so they can inspect the back of your throat.
