GERD: it is okay to try omeprazole up to 20 mg once a day for up to two weeks to try to prevent heartburn and acid reflux. If your symptoms persist beyond that, you should see your dr. for a more definitive diagnosis and longer-term treatment. Avoid the particular foods that you think cause your reflux. I'd avoid caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco. Consider tilting your bed. Good luck.
