All the time.: Body parts wear out, especially if you don't take care of them. I've seen organs fail because of arterial blockages (heart, kidney), viral infections (liver, heart again), inflammatory conditions - usually auto-immune (pancreas, brain, kidney, lungs), alcohol / drugs (pancreas, liver, brain, heart), and other causes. Common or rare depends on your perspective. Most people don't live in a hospital
