Many causes: While it doesn't really matter, I presume you mean the outside, not the inside corner. One clue is HOW red is it: very dark redness is probably from a ruptured blood vessel in the sclera (white part). Inflammation or mild infection of the conjunctiva or episclera results in redness, but often associated discharge, too.Dry eyes can cause redness.
