A member asked:

My psychiatrist said except for following laws there's no "shoulds" in life. everyone is different so don't compare yourself. is that accurate?

Some thoughts...: That should work, but one should realize there are laws about everything, and too many lawyers and too many laws, which confuses everyone. There are laws of physics (speeding at 100mph, hit a concrete post, and you die); laws of God (love thy neighbor); laws of nature (don't try to cross a zebra with an elephant); laws of morality (mean people suck); laws of ethics (don't give bribes, kickbacks).

Context: Hard to know the exact point your psychiatrist was making. However, telling a patient not to compare him/herself to others, may be good advice if one is too self-critical or overly focused on what others think.
