Process of eliminati: Without testing, one cannot be sure. If you eliminate gluten from your diet and your symptoms abate, you have a presumptive diagnosis.

Unfortunately, no.: There are screening blood tests that are fairly accurate, but unfortunately, to make an accurate diagnosis, some testing is necessary. Tissue transglutaminase and endomysial antibodies have high sensitivity and specificity for detecting celiac disease. The celiac panel should not be overly expensive and certainly worth doing if your doctor suspects that you might have celiac disease.

Gluten free diet: Gluten sensitivity responds to a gluten free diet. This costs nothing. Ibs does not respond to a gluten free diet. You might need to avoid both gluten and milk initially, meaning avoid wheat, rye and barley as well as all or most dairy products. A lot of GI problems will clear up on such a diet. Once better, you can add back foods and see which ones bother you. Follow it at least 1 month.
