Could be: See your doc. Have you had any trauma to the left hand side of your chest wall? Have you been coughing a lot recently? Does it hurt more when you inhale? You should think about the answers to these questions and see your doc.

Have it checked out: It is always better to be safe than sorry for any chest pain after the age of 40. It is more so if you also have shortness of breath and sweating with it. If you have added risk factors like smoking, high blood pressure, and diabetes than it increases the risk of having a heart attack. Bruising inside the chest without trauma is unheard of. Please go and see a doctor right away or go to E.R.
